LMAX Exchange, the UK’s leading financial technology firm is set to continue its extreme sporting prowess by sponsoring a team in the biennial Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. LMAX Exchange made its global ocean-racing debut at the end of August 2015 when the 40,000 nautical mile race began in London. The race, recognised as one of the hardest endurance challenges in the world, reflects the LMAX Exchange company values of ambition, teamwork and innovation.

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other. With no previous sailing experience necessary, it’s a record breaking 40,000 nautical mile race around the world on a 70-foot ocean racing yacht, divided into eight legs and 16 individual races. It is the only race in the world where the organisers supply a fleet of twelve identical racing yachts, each with a fully qualified skipper to safely guide the crew.
Ports
LMAX Exchange will race into some of the most iconic ports around the globe. On the importance of in-port activations along the race route, David Mercer comments: “Engagement on the race is key for us. We will certainly be running big destination events in New York, Sydney and back here in London for our customers. Many of our customers are banks, funds, brokers and even individuals. China is a long term opportunity for us so Qingdao will be a significant activation market.”
LMAX Exchange is one of twelve teams participating in the Clipper Race, which trains amateur crew to race across the world’s most challenging oceans under the leadership of a professional skipper. LMAX Exchange CEO, David Mercer, will be joining part of the race. The team will be led by French Skipper Olivier Cardin, he comments: “I have never been one to do things in half measures, LMAX Exchange is an ambitious company and will match my own vision for the race. David is no stranger to tests like this and I am looking forward to having him join us on the race. ”
