Total notional volume at LMAX Digital was impressive in the previous week, up 26% as compared with the week earlier. Total notional volume from Monday to Friday last week came in at $8.26 billion.

Weekend volume was a little softer as compared with the previous weekend. This past weekend’s total notional volume came in at $1.3 billion, versus $1.5 billion the previous weekend. This represented a 13% decline in volume weekend over weekend.

Looking at average position size over the past 30 days, we’re seeing average bitcoin position size at $12,940 and average position size for ether at $5,859.

Volatility has been slowly picking up since finding a bottom in July. We’re now looking at average daily ranges in bitcoin and ether of $2,930 and $227 respectively.

Cryptocurrencies have gone mainstream. This has been the major takeaway in the space over the past several days. The market had been waiting a long time for acceptance from the SEC, and that acceptance finally came through the approval of the first Bitcoin futures ETF.

We have since been hearing more crypto supportive stories across the wires. These include news Walmart has started a pilot program to sell bitcoin at Coinstar kiosks in some of its US stores, and news Spanish banks are preparing to offer crypto services.

Of course, seasonality hasn’t hurt either. October has been a historically strong month for bitcoin, and this in conjunction with other supportive factors including a record high US equities market, are additional factors playing into this latest run higher.
