Several auctions across Europe, in the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy, and given the fact that all the coupons were raised in Spain’s case more than doubled. The resignation of the Dutch PM over the crisis with their budget didn’t move the Euro, that is not until  a weaker US consumer confidence number did the Euro move higher, go figure, having traded around 1.3150 area for most of the Asian and early session those all-important Eureeee US figures moved the Euro above the 1.3200 level peaking at 1.3217 before drifting back over the remainder of the session to close just below 1.3200. GBP despite a PBSB slightly worse than expected cable kept to a tight range over the whole 24hours moving roughly 1.6120 1.6160 on the wide on a very quiet session. AUD after the CPI results it moved swiftly lower during the Asian period dropping from the 1.0320 level down to 1.0260 then further over the session to just below 1.0250 before finding support and starting a steady move upwards, as mentioned yesterday, the forward rate for one year would put the actual buying level below the parity level, which exporters find attractive, Remembering that official delivery transactions in CNY is against the USD, which then is converted to AUD, so hedging is a major game plan for the exporters. USDJPY had an early choppy day with AUDJPY carry trades been sold off with the fall of the AUDUSD, USDJPY went with it moving to below the 81.00 level finding support just above the 80.80 level once we moved out of Asia and into London a reverse of fortunes and USDJPY found itself above3 81.20 early ong before trading a tight range of 81.20/81.00 until an hour before the NYK close where fresh buying moved it above 81.30.

AUD holiday left the market exposed to a short squeeze, initially started by carry trade buying from retail the AUD swiftly up just after the opening trading from 1.2090 to 1.0320 then continuing slowly to attempt 1.0340 before buying ran out, it than began to drift lower but with the Ozzies side-lined if was a lacklustre drift. USDJPY rose from the NYK close on carry trade buying a resetting of yesterday’s stop losses one guesses, USDJPY moved initially above 81.40 and again to 81.55 on a second round of buying and fixing demand before settling back into the later session.
