Total notional volume at LMAX Digital ticked up 6% last week, as compared with the week earlier. Friday volumes were also impressive.

Total notional volume on Friday was 13% above the 30-day average, bitcoin volume was 19% above the 30-day average, and ether volume was 9% above the 30-day average.

Weekend volume was also more impressive. This past weekend’s total notional volume came in at $1.3 billion, versus $991 million the previous weekend. This represented a 31% increase in volume weekend over weekend.

Looking at average position size over the past 30 days, we’re seeing average bitcoin position size at $10,614 and average position size for ether at $4,949.

Volatility has been slowly picking up since finding a bottom in July. We’re now looking at average daily ranges in bitcoin and ether of $2,634 and $224 respectively.

We’re not too sure many out there can even remember when the crypto market was under pressure at the end of September on the headlines around China declaring all crypto transactions illegal.

Of course, we had dismissed the news back then when it was already clear this was just another rehash of what China had already been saying for years.

Since then, we’ve seen a resilient market, that has even rallied in the face of a downturn in US equities.

Speculation around more crypto friendly regulation has certainly appealed to the institutional investor, while seasonality is also playing its part, with October a historically strong month for crypto assets.

Soros Fund Management is another heavyweight to now enter the world of crypto investing.
