Special report: FOMC Preview – Finally 25
It's been 12 months since the last Fed rate hike, which was supposed to pave the way for four more rate hikes in 2016. In the end, we are into December 2016 and only now is the Fed expected to move on rates for the first time this year. The broad consensus is for a 25 basis point hike. This will be only the second rate hike in ten years.
Next 24 hours: Digesting Event Risk
It was clear that even with a batch of solid first tier data, the market wasn't going to be moving much ahead of the Fed decision. Initially, we got mixed employment data out of the UK, with average earnings on the rise but jobless claims rising as well. Then it was mixed US data with retail sales lower and PPI higher.
