Euro’s slid on the back of Spain’s downgrade falling from the opening area of 1.3220 touching below 1.3160 at the start of the London session, Italian bonds did €5.95bln close to the top €6.35bln on offer however, both the cover 1.48 less than 1.65 times a month ago and the coupon of 5.84% vs. 5.24% previous, the market took this a favourable and started to move up slowly into the NYK session where a poor GDP print in the US pushed the Euro to new highs for the day topping out above 1.3260 and then flirting with the level over the remainder of the session. GBP was tugged along by the Euro not dipping on the Spain news it traded 1.6160/80 during the Asian session and then started moving up in early London pushing through 1.6200 early on from there, there was brief pause before moving up to trade 1.6280 and slipped back towards the close of NYK. AUD suffered with the Euro in the Asian session but found renewed comfort in the move higher by Euro and tagged along and pushed higher at a faster rate, topping and holding above 1.0450. USDJPY having traded higher on a batch of poor figures more importantly Industrial production which came in much lower than expected moving USDJPY up above 81.40 before safe haven flows kicked in and it started to drift and continued into NYK before finding some support in 80.40 area.

A range bound day just for a change with Euro’s holding the 1.3230/50 on the wide, not much going on number wise and what we have had are lagging numbers and mixed. GBP continued moving up but again a tight range 1.6266/88 on the wide. AUD dipped on the Securities inflation number would add to suggestions of weakening inflation adding to the idea of a drop in interest rates to come. USDJPY opened moving upwards from the close but fixing supply turned the market and it started a decline that lasted for a couple of hours taking us from the 80.38 highs down to 2month lows at 80.10 before support was seen in sufficient numbers to hold.
